Hyperion Knight's guardian is a gray and black spotted desert lizard named Phaeton, approximately ten inches from head to tail. Phaeton is even-tempered and sensible, and usually responds to Zach's apathy with a calm reprimand. He knows Zach inside and out, and the two get along based on their basic understanding natures. Phaeton is well-spoken and mannered almost to the point of superciliousness, but seems to know more about the nature of the Senshi than he lets on. Due to his cold-blooded, lizard physiology, Phaeton is confined to his tank in Zach's room, as his body can only live at a certain high temperature. It secretly troubles him that he cannot be on the outside monitoring his charge.
The name Phaeton is based on the son of Helios (son of Hyperion), whom he once allowed to guide his chariot across the sky. The unskilled youth could not control the horses and fell towards his death.
